5 Things I'm Doing Differently in 2020

Every year I choose a word to focus on, and the word I’ve chosen for 2020 is cultivate, as in “cultivate what matters.”

In order to make that happen, I’m being intentional about the choices I’m making— or trying to be more intentional, anyway. It’s a process, like so many other things in life.

I’m working on identifying changes I want to make this year that will help point me in the direction of cultivating the things that truly matter to me — my relationships, my health, my faith, being more generous, being more patient, and living more naturally.

So there are some things I’m changing this year.

  1. I’m switching (or trying to— we’ll see how it goes) applicator-free tampons and a reusable cup instead of applicator tampons. They’re much more sustainable, and they actually cost less! It’s a win-win!

I buy all of my products from Cora because I like how transparent they are about providing good-quality products without nasty chemicals, and they donate products to girls in need around the world. You can try Cora for yourself here.

  2. I’m trying out Imperfect Foods for some of my produce to help reduce food waste, and I plan to go to the farmer’s market more regularly when it opens this summer.

I want to eat more fresh foods and work to prioritize local foods from the farmer’s market and choose organic foods when it’s important (trying to follow the Environmental Working Group’s Dirty Dozen list). Bonus: Imperfect Foods also carries protein and grain options AND ships directly to my house! You can try Imperfect Foods here.

  3. I’m going to plant a garden again. I skipped it last year because life was too chaotic between dog sitting away from my house for weeks at a time, wedding planning, family trips, moving, and having a patio that’s almost fully shaded, it just didn’t work.

But now I have more room and sunshine to take advantage of! I’ve already started looking at plans for the raised bed and started picking out seeds.

  4. I’m posting on social media (and the Internet in general) less. I’m not blogging as frequently or posting on Facebook or Instagram so much. I love connecting, but I’m finding that happens more and more in real life. I don’t want engaging online to feel like an obligation, so I’m choosing to participate and contribute when I feel moved to do so. I’ll still be sharing, but not quite as much.

  5. I’m going to be more intentional about planning time with my husband, from simple things like having dinner together more often than not to actual date nights. I love spending time with him, but when we don’t talk about making it happen, our default setting is to revert back to the habits we built during our single days. I’ve started looking up fun date night ideas and drumming up some plans, and I’ve been working on making meal plans clearer. It’s most definitely a work in progress, but it’s progress nonetheless!

Are you making any changes this year? I’d love to hear what you’re working on! Shoot me an email at jessie@notesfromjessie.com or reply to this post!

Later, lovely!Jessie.png
