November Favorites
I thought it would be fun if I took a moment each month to let you know what things are currently striking my fancy, so here goes the November installment! Current favorites:
Song: Our God by Chris Tomlin. This song holds a special place in my heart, as one of my former roommates and I connected over it in college-- we realized we had both been at a large conference the summer before freshman year, where we heard the song performed live and really liked it, but we didn't know we were in the same place until we met at Cru, a student organization at our university. It still reminds me of her every time I hear it.
Book: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I've written before about reading through my volume of Jane Austen novels, but this one was my favorite as it brings some nostalgia with it. I've read it before, and I love the version of the movie with Keira Knightley, so it was like revisiting an old friend each time I cracked it open.
Verse: "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, 'O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.'" -Daniel 3:16-18. God is able to do great things, but even if He doesn't move in the way I want Him to, He is still God, and He is still good.
Food: Caramel- and chocolate-dipped apples. I had some friends over a couple weeks ago, and featured a gourmet caramel apple and popcorn bar for food. From the leftovers, I enjoyed dipping apple slices in caramel and dark chocolate and sprinkling them with chopped peanuts or shredded coconut. Simple and delicious.
TV Show: Once Upon a Time. I've been watching the show for years, but for a while lost track of what was happening, since I have a habit of multitasking, which doesn't allow me to pay attention to the details of shows that I have playing in the background. I took a couple weekends to catch up on the last season I had missed, and got wrapped up in the magic all over again. I really like the way the producers continue to throw new twists into the story and bring in well-known fairytale and storybook characters that have slightly different stories than what I remember from the Disney versions, which is always fun to watch.
Memory from last month: Getting to go to the apple orchard with my sister, my cousin, and my cousin's toddler. We ventured out on a sunny Sunday afternoon, took in a tractor ride, and played in the corn pit. I got the chance to buy some discounted pumpkins and squash, along with a bag of apples. It enabled me to begin my seasonal baking, so I got an afternoon spent with some sweet people and a bunch of sweet treats out of the deal-- it was a win-win!
