Come As You Are

Come out of sadness From wherever you've been Come broken hearted Let rescue begin Come find your mercy Oh sinner come kneel Earth has no sorrow That heaven can't heal Earth has no sorrow That heaven can't heal

So lay down your burdens Lay down your shame All who are broken Lift up your face Oh wanderer come home You're not too far So lay down your hurt Lay down your heart Come as you are

There's hope for the hopeless And all those who've strayed Come sit at the table Come taste the grace There's rest for the weary Rest that endures Earth has no sorrow That heaven can't cure

So lay down your burdens Lay down your shame All who are broken Lift up your face Oh wanderer come home You're not too far Lay down your hurt Lay down your heart Come as you are Come as you are Fall in his arms Come as you are There's joy for the morning Oh sinner be still Earth has no sorrow That heaven can't heal Earth has no sorrow That heaven can't heal

So lay down your burdens Lay down your shame All who are broken Lift up your face Oh wanderer come home You're not too far So lay down your hurt Lay down your heart Come as you are Come as you are Come as you are Read more: David Crowder - Come As You Are Lyrics | MetroLyrics

We have gotten really good at masquerading. We think we have to have it together all the time. We think people will think less of us if they see our flaws. We think being a Christian means being perfect. Unfortunately, that line of thinking has only resulted in making us perfectly fake.

There is rest, comfort, healing, and freedom for the taking, if only we will humble ourselves and admit our need for them and for others. There's no hurt too deep, no mistake too great, no burden too heavy, and no point at which we could ever be too far gone to experience the peace found in our the arms of our Father and our friends.

I invite you to come as you are-- broken, hurting, healing, rejoicing, striving, hopeful, despairing, stressed, exhausted, celebrating, grieving, joyful, and genuine. Only when we create room for authenticity in relationships can we really forge strong friendships and find the kind of support we need to get through life's hardships.

We can't go through life alone, but we can't expect people to help us through the rough patches if they don't know what's going on in our hearts. It's a cyclical effect: when we know our friends are tried and true, there for us through thick and thin, then we're willing to be real with them and let them in on the nitty gritty aspects of our lives, which builds greater trust, forging even deeper relationships that we can continue to count on as we take this bumpy ride through life together.

So let's commit to being more authentic. Let's be the ones who are genuine. Will you join me in taking steps toward greater honesty in relationships, and begin to live life-on-life with those closest to you, letting them see the good, the bad, and the ugly? It's through shared transparency that we catch a glimpse of deep love, real camaraderie, and true friendship.
