My Favorite DIY Beauty Solutions (5 Ingredients or Less!)

We all want to look and feel our best, and most of us want to do it without breaking the bank. But beauty products can add up quickly, so I’m sharing my favorite DIY solutions that have just five ingredients or less so you can create your own wonderful products and save money at the same time!

Face Wash

I tried SO MANY commercial face washes through high school, college, and life post-college, and I never found any I absolutely loved. They seemed like they worked okay, but they weren’t as effective as I wanted, and the ingredient lists were just so long!

And more “natural” products are so expensive!

Of course, there are some store-bought options that are more cost-effective, but my favorite way (that’s even less expensive) is to DIY my products.

This honey face wash is my current favorite, and I make mine with jojoba oil, citrus castile soap, and add some tea tree and lavender essential oils, which are good for your skin.

Face Mask

I love making a super simple mask with bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar.

I’ve had this container of bentonite clay for ages, and it lasts so long! And, of course, apple cider vinegar is inexpensive.

Moisturizer

There are so many options for DIY moisturizer, but this is my current favorite.

I just take my jojoba oil and mix it with some lavender and tea tree essential oils. It’s simple and inexpensive! I keep mine in a miniature mason jar and apply it with my fingers after washing my face and applying toner.

I started with this recipe, though I don’t always include the vitamin E oil.

Exfoliating Face Scrub

There are so many homemade facial scrubs! My current favorite is a simple mix of brown sugar (the exfoliating agent) and honey (a natural antibacterial agent) and olive oil (for moisture). You just mix it all together, apply some in circles around your face, and wash it off!

Toner

Toner can be so expensive! Did you know that apple cider vinegar can be diluted to be used as toner? It’s so cheap and easy to make! I have mine in a small travel-size bottle, and I just squeeze a little onto the corner of a washcloth, wipe it over my face, and call it a day (or night).

Here are some more detailed instructions and a better explanation of the way it works to benefit your skin.

Dry Shampoo

I love dry shampoo as much as the next girl, but I don’t love using aerosols that aren’t good for the environment, and I’m not big on using tons of chemicals, especially if I can’t pronounce them or be sure they’re safe.

Not to mention it’s one more thing to have to remember to buy!

So I looked up some recipes, and I started making my own with cornstarch and cocoa powder, which might sound funny (or even smelly), but it’s been so great! I just apply it with a makeup brush I use just for that purpose, massage it in a bit like I’ve done with commercial dry shampoo, comb my hair, and I’m ready to go.

The only time I ever smell it is the next morning when I’m sweating during a workout, but I don’t mind the chocolatey smell in lieu of smelling my own sweat!

Hair Mask

Are you ready for the easiest hair mask you’ll ever do? It’s only one ingredient and you probably already have it.

Coconut oil.

Yep. That’s it. Just coconut oil.

I prefer the unrefined virgin stuff that’s solid at room temp because it has some more nutrients than the refined stuff, but either one will have plenty of benefits for your hair!

I melt it in my hands first (which you wouldn’t have to do if you use fractionated refined coconut oil that’s already liquid), then work it through my hair, from root to tip, making sure I get it mostly evened out (no need for perfection here). I like to do it before a workout so it can be absorbed for a while before I wash it out.

It’s so moisturizing! Because of that, though, know that you might need to use a little extra shampoo to keep your hair from looking oily that day.
