Highlight Reel (July 2019 Favorites)

I thought it would be fun if I took a moment each month to let you know what things are currently striking my fancy, so here goes the July installment!

CURRENT FAVORITES:

BOOKS:

This month, I read:

  • Tapestry of Fortunes by Elizabeth Berg— I thoroughly enjoyed this story about women, adult friendships, destiny, and adventure, even though i don’t subscribe to all the beliefs. It made for a great story with rich characters.

  • Nelly Dean: A Return to Wuthering Heights by Alison Case— I’ll admit I don’t remember too many details about Wuthering Heights, but I really liked this spinoff that focused on things from the perspective of the housekeeper who grew up with Cathy and Heathcliff.

  • When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithithis book was more medical practice-oriented and less about the doctor’s life than I anticipated, so some of the medical content went over my head as I listened, but I really liked the idea behind it and the overall story.

  • A Caribbean Mystery by Agatha Christie— I haven’t read many Agatha Christie novels, but this one was pretty good! It was less page-turner-y and more of a beach read, but it makes for a good one of those!

  • Underground Airlines by Ben Winters— the concept of this book was so interesting! I found my mind wandering a bit as it tends to do with audiobooks sometimes, but I thought it was an interesting idea, and it did keep me guessing about how things were going to develop.

  • Anxious for Nothing by Max Lucado— this book (much like Chemistry of Calm last month) came at the perfect time and encouraged me to choose faith over fear and anxiety in a season of change and transition. I highly recommend it!

QUOTE:

“Today is a great day to have a great day!” This phrase used to hang by our front door, and as we’re preparing to move, I took it down and moved it to my office at work, where it still reminds me that I get to choose what kind of attitude I have about my day. And I choose joy and positivity. What do you choose?

MOVIES/TV SHOWS:

I started re-watching Hart of Dixie, and I got swept up in the small-town drama all over again! I watched an episode of Gilmore Girls with friends on a girls’ night, and I started seeing some common threads there.

PRODUCT:

Zoya nail polish. I’ve had several bottles for a while, and I just ordered some more— particularly a nice bright, summery coral color I’m loving right now!

I started with one of their starter sets from Amazon, and I love their naked French manicure kit, too!

FOOD:

I made some really good food this month!

MEMORIES FROM JULY:

IMG_7685 2.JPG

I got to spend a whole blessed week with my fiance and his family at a cabin up north, and it was a much-needed break!

I also had two of the sweetest bridal showers thrown by friends and family, and they were such a blast! I’m so grateful for the kind women who put the time and effort into throwing them and all the others who came to celebrate!

LOOKING FORWARD TO IN AUGUST:

I’m looking forward to things slowing down a bit, making more progress on wedding tasks, and hopefully starting to put away some of the wedding gifts that are piling up while making time for enjoying the sunshine before the end of the summer.

What were some of your favorite things this month? I'd love to hear from you in the comments!

Later, lovely!Jessie (2).png
